This policy is part of our Terms & Conditions and applies to every order placed with the Hemet & San Jacinto Chronicle, doing business as NewFBN.
Refund — before first publication
You may cancel your order at any time before the first scheduled publication of your Notice has gone to print and receive a refund of the amount paid, less any payment-processing fees (see below). The current weekly print deadline is Tuesday, 12:00 noon Pacific time for that week's Thursday edition (subject to change).
To cancel, email [email protected] or call (951) 262-7611 (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Pacific) before the deadline. Refunds are issued to the original payment method, typically within 3–5 business days after the cancellation is processed.
Payment processing fees are non-refundable
When you pay by card, our payment processor and your card network charge a per-transaction processing fee. That fee is not returned to us when we issue a refund, so it cannot be included in any refund we make to you. Every refund — full or partial — is therefore reduced by the amount of any payment-processing fees that our payment processor or your card network does not refund to us. This deduction is typically a small percentage of the order total plus a fixed per-transaction charge.
Partial / no refund — after first publication
Once any portion of your Notice has been printed in our newspaper, the publication is part of the public record and cannot be retracted. Your sole remedies after first publication are:
- Pro-rata refund (discretionary). We may, at our discretion, refund a pro-rata share of the price for any unpublished remaining weeks, less a $25 administrative fee. We are not obligated to do so.
- Re-publication for our error. If a publication contained a typographical error or omission caused by us (not by an error in what you submitted), our sole liability is to re-publish the corrected Notice at our cost in the next available print editions for the same number of weeks affected. See Terms & Conditions §7.
No refund for customer-supplied errors
Disputes & chargebacks
A legal notice is a performed service: once a publication has run in our newspaper or an affidavit has been filed, that work cannot be undone. For an order that has already been performed in whole or in part, we reserve the right to contest a chargeback and recover the amount validly owed, including by referring the unpaid balance to a collection agency if a dispute is resolved in our favor. Unpaid balances may accrue interest at the maximum rate permitted by California law.
Filing a dispute for a purchase you authorized and that we performed as agreed (sometimes called "friendly fraud") may be challenged with your card network using our records of your order, verification, and the published notice.
Nothing here limits your rights under applicable law or your card network's rules to dispute a charge — we simply ask that you give us the chance to make it right first.
Duplicate orders
If you accidentally place the same order twice (same email + same business name within 24 hours), our system blocks the duplicate at the order page. If a true duplicate slips through (e.g., two unrelated payment methods), contact us within 7 days and we will refund the duplicate in full, no administrative fee.
How to request a refund
Email [email protected] with:
- Your order number (e.g.
ORD-XXXXXXX) - The reason for the request
- The email address used at checkout (so we can verify the order)
We will respond within one business day. If you do not hear back within 48 hours, please call (951) 262-7611 — your message may have been filtered.
